Psychopharmacology is the scientific study of the use of pharmacological compounds in the treatment of mental disorders. Physicians and other prescribers with expertise in psychopharmacology apply their knowledge of pharmacokinetics (what the body does to medication) and pharmacodynamics (what the medications do to the body) in finding optimal medication regimens in treating mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, etc.
