FREE CE CREDIT - Schizophrenia: What’s New About Dopamine and How It Is Regulated?
Recording from the ASCP 2025 Annual Meeting is now available!
Education: 1 CE Credit Hour
Cost: Free, No Membership or Registration Required - Just follow the steps below.
- Explore new research on dopamine regulation in schizophrenia, including presynaptic modulation and muscarinic receptor agonism
- Address unmet needs in drug efficacy, side effect management, and clinical applicability
- Designed to benefit clinicians, researchers, regulatory partners, and new investigators
- Supported by robust needs assessments from past ASCP attendees (900+ professionals)
By the end of the symposium, participants will be able to:
- Describe how the dopamine model in psychosis has evolved, from rodent studies to human applications
- Differentiate between presynaptic and postsynaptic dopamine dysregulation in schizophrenia
- Identify the limitations of traditional dopamine receptor blockade, including motor side effects (e.g., tardive dyskinesia)
- Recognize side effects of engaging monoaminergic receptors (e.g., sedation, weight gain)
- Understand how M1 and M4 muscarinic receptor pathways offer alternative strategies for modulating dopamine output
- Analyze clinical outcomes of xanomeline-trospium, a promising muscarinic-based treatment
- Evaluate ongoing research questions (e.g., orthosteric vs. allosteric modulation, necessity of both M1/M4 targets)
- Discuss the future potential of muscarinic agonism as a first-line treatment strategy over dopamine receptor blockade
To earn CE credit, participants must complete the following:
- Take the pre-event survey here. You will be directed to the recording after completing pre-test.
- Watch the recording.
- At the end of the recording, scan the QR code to take the post-event survey (it is also linked here).
- Once the post-event survey is completed you will automatically be directed to evaluation for credit.
- Attest and receive your CE certificate.
