ASCP Statement on Inclusivity

As we have witnessed in horror and profound sadness the most recent abhorrent examples of police brutality and racism, our thoughts of sympathy and fellowship go to the families and loved ones of those who have died and, by extension, to the broader African American community and all individuals who have lived inequalities and other forms of injustice. These events are the most recent and graphic illustration of the tragic consequences of racism and social disparities we sadly witness routinely as health professionals.

 

We at the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology emphatically reject racism and other forms of injustice. We value and pursue a climate of equity and inclusion that is embraced and championed by all as affirmed in our Inclusivity Statement: “ASCP has a commitment to actively promote and welcome diversity and inclusion within the society and within our field. Diversity includes but is not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, intellectual perspectives and points of view. ASCP encourages and promotes membership and contributions from individuals who identify as members of minoritized communities.”

 

ASCP continues to aspire to become an exemplary leader in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment wherein everyone can learn, develop, innovate and flourish. Consistent with this commitment, the ASCP have adopted anti-racism practices and specific initiatives to promote a more diverse membership, pledge to continue to monitor our progress on an ongoing basis, endeavor to host a more inclusive Annual Meeting experience including curricular content and diversity of speakers, promoting, among others, racial/ethnic and gender equality in leadership and opportunity for all groups.
