Nominee Eligibility and Award Criteria

2025 marked the inaugural year of the Henry Nasrallah Award for Excellence in Clinical Psychopharmacology. This award will be given annually to recognize outstanding contributions in clinical psychopharmacology education and teaching. The nominee should be recognized as an educator nationally and internationally as evidenced by invited CME accredited presentations at national and international conferences. Other examples that may considered when reviewing applications include, but are not limited to:

  • Published innovative educational materials (books, peer-reviewed articles, etc.) related to psychopharmacology
  • Involvement on advisory boards
  • Serve as training director
  • Distinguished mentor in psychopharmacology
  • High visibility in patient advocacy organizations

The Henry Nasrallah Award consists of a $3,500 award amount ($2,500 honoraria provided to the award recipient plus $1,000 to cover travel expenses of the award winner). This award will be presented during the 2027 ASCP Annual Meeting (formerly NCDEU) in Chicago, IL from June 1-4, 2027.

The Award Winner will be expected to attend the 2027 ASCP Annual Meeting to accept the award and deliver the Henry Nasrallah educational lecture.

About Dr. Henry Nasrallah

Dr. Henry Nasrallah is an internationally recognized psychiatrist, educator, and researcher. He received his BS and MD from the American University of Beirut and completed his residency at the University of Rochester, followed by a neuroscience fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Nasrallah has held prominent faculty positions, including at the University of California, San Diego, and Ohio State University, where he served as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.

Currently, he is the Director of the Schizophrenia and Neuropsychiatry Programs at the University of Cincinnati, where his research focuses on the neurobiology and psychopharmacology of schizophrenia and related disorders. Dr. Nasrallah has authored over 450 scientific articles and 13 books, edited several leading journals, and is a co-founder of the Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS).

This award is intended to honor those who exemplify the spirit of Dr. Nasrallah’s commitment to excellence in education and research in clinical psychopharmacology.

Congratulations to the 2026 Henry Nasrallah Award Winner, Dr. Leslie Citrome!

Dr. Citrome is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and Adjunct Professor at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Citrome was the founding Director of the Clinical Research and Evaluation Facility at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research in Orangeburg, New York and Professor of Psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine.

In 2010, after leaving State service, Dr. Citrome became engaged as a consultant in clinical trial design and interpretation. He remained clinically active providing assistance to patients and their families through the Assertive Community Treatment program operated by the Mental Health Association of Rockland County through 2025. Dr. Citrome is a former President of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology 2021-2023, as well as Board Member 2012-2025.

Dr. Citrome is the author or co-author of over 600 original research reports, reviews, and book chapters in the scientific literature, is Editor-in-Chief of Current Medical Research and Opinion (CMRO) published by Taylor & Francis, and Editor of the "ASCP Corner" in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. He served as the senior author of the 2022 Good Publication Practice (GPP) Guidelines for Company-Sponsored Biomedical Research, on behalf of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals, and has served as a Board Member of the World Association of Medical Editors.

Dr. Citrome has lectured extensively about the importance of quantifying clinical relevance of research findings using Number Needed to Treat throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australasia, and the Middle East. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow (Emeritus)of the Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum (CINP).
